It’s an exciting time in the NBA right now and the Sports Mole is as guilty as anyone else when it comes to being caught up in the NBA free agent sweepstakes.  Despite being caught up in all of the hoopla and mayhem, there is one thing that makes me sick to my stomach and that’s the ridiculous amounts of cha ching being dropped on sub-par players.  Take a few seconds to digest the high salary contracts given out by teams in the past 24-hours and see why the Sports Mole believes the NBA is slowly becoming a joke of a league.

Rudy Gay (Memphis Grizzlies) – 5-years, $82 million

Drew Gooden (Milwaukee Bucks) –  5-years, $32 million

Brendan Haywood (Dallas Mavericks) – 6-years, $55 million

Amir Johnson (Toronto Raptors) – 5-years, $34 million

Joe Johnson (Atlanta Hawks) – 6-years, $119 million

Darki Milicic (Minnesota Timberwolves) – 4-years, $20 million

Travis Outlaw (New Jersey Nets) – 5-years, $35 million

John Salmons (Milwaukee Bucks) – 5-years, $40 million

Steve Blake (Los Angeles Lakers) – 4-years, $16 million

Excuse me for a few minutes will I go attempt to kick myself in the groin in agony over what I have seen.  Ohhh and before I forget, congratulations to Net’s owner Mikhail Prokhorov for making a monster free agent splash by signing the most feared NBA swingman – Travis Outlaw.  You do know this is the NBA, not the Russian league correct?  Can anyone please explain what was going through these owners minds before they opened their wallets like politicians on the corner of the street?  Good God owners we are in a recession and trying to get fans in the seats, not scare them away.
