Kimbo Sliced From UFC

The once proclaimed baddest man on Earth Kimbo Slice has quickly been brought down to reality after suffering a 2nd round TKO to the hands of former NFL lineman Matt Mitrione at UFC 113.  Kimbo who made his name  fighting on the streets of Miami had UFC President, Dana White licking his chops at the opportunity to bring in this recognizable name to his growing company this past year.  However, after a disappointing showing on Spike’s The Ultimate Fighter and suffering an absolute manhandling this past Saturday to the out of shape Mitrione; Dana White was steaming and made this comment, “That’s probably Kimbo’s last fight in the UFC.”  White doesn’t seem like someone I would want to piss off, how about you?

I am as big a Kimbo Slice fan as there is out there, but it’s clear that Kimbo is and always will be a street brawler.  These UFC fighters have such an array of ways to defeat opponents that Kimbo looked like a lost puppy out there in the octagon.  If the UFC was a stand-up punch fest there is no doubt in my mind he would be the champion for years to come, but unfortunately for him technique, hand positioning, wrestling and skill are much more important in determining the outcome of fights.

I will say that I along with Dana White have the utmost respect for Kimbo and I’m glad he gave the UFC a chance.  However, if street fights ever become popular in mainstream television and let’s say NBC decided they wanted to televise Kimbo Slice vs. the Junk Yard Dog (fictional) you better believe it would be one of the most watched Pay Per Views in history.  Many fight fans have always been drawn to Kimbo’w brawler style as well as his intriguing persona and I can’t imagine this is the way he envisioned his career ending.   I really hope this isn’t the last we see of Kimbo as I still believe he could turn into something special in the fighting world.  Keep it real Kimbo we still love you!
