Gilbert Arenas Let Off the Hook

The Washington Wizards 100 million dollar point guard, Gilbert Arenas was let off the hook yesterday after bringing four guns into the team’s arena.   The offense was punishable by up to five years in jail, however prosecutors were only asking that Gilbert serve a maximum of 3 months in the pigpen.  Instead, the judge decides to slap Arenas on the wrist with 30 days in a halfway house, 400 hours of community service, a $5,000 fine and the entire sporting world wondering what in the hell this judge was thinking.   Plaxico Burress has to be rolling over in his jail cell after hearing this ridiculous punishment, if you can even call it that.  This ruling just shows that athletes receive preferential treatment.  This is absolutely sickening!

If I would have brought a gun let alone four into my place of employment, I can tell you that (a) I wouldn’t have a job to return to and (b) would have had the entire book thrown at me when it came to receiving a punishment.  There is no doubt a regular man or women likely serves the maximum sentence if put in the place of Gilbert Arenas.  What is even more pathetic is that the judge actually said that he thought Gilbert Arenas was remorseful and learned a lesson through this entire ordeal?  Kick this judge of his podium because pretty sure Gilbert Arenas was using his fingers as fake guns during an early game this season in mockery of the entire situation.  What can we learn from this?  That the law helps criminals more than it punishes them.
