NCAA Top 25 & the Sports Moles Final Four Predictions

Posted: March 2, 2010 in Uncategorized

After surveying the recent NCAA Men’s College basketball rankings this week and after witnessing some of these games on the boob-tube, I think what we didn’t learn is much more valuable than what we did.  Syracuse is no doubt going to be a #1 seed come March Madness, but are they the hands down favorite to cut down the nets?  I would argue, no, but they have an excellent shot!  What we can take away from seeing the previous top three teams in the country lose this past weekend is that there truly is no legitimate overall #1 team.  It seems that every team in the country is easily susceptible to defeat on any given week or weekend.  One thing that stands out, as it does in every sport in college athletics, is the presence of the “mid-major” schools.  It’s hard to understand how a team like New Mexico can be ranked #10 when one of their biggest wins is against BYU!  I understand that their record is 27-3, but does the sheer number of wins hold more importance than the quality of someone’s schedule and wins over “quality” teams?  I would argue it doesn’t, but then again this may be part of the reason I am not given a vote.  With this great parity in men’s college basketball, there is only one thing fans know come March Madness and that is each and every game will be an absolute dandy!

The Sports Moles Final Four Prediction is: All four #1 seeds get there!  My guess who those top 4 #1 seeds will be are Kentucky, Kansas, Syracuse & ?  The only exception to this will be if Duke gets a #1 seed! I don’t think Duke has enough of a low post presence to make a deep run in March. Only time will tell, but please feel free to leave your comments & predictions as well.
